  • As late as the mid-17th century, the French wine makers did not use corks. Instead, they used oil-soaked rags stuffed into the necks of bottles.
  • The wreck of the TITANIC holds the deepest wine cellar in the world and despite the depth and wreckage, the bottles are still intact.
  • The oldest known wine reference is from Roman Historian Pliny the Elder who rated 121 B.C. as a vintage “of the highest excellence.” The wine he was reviewing was 200 years old! Pliny the Elder wrote the history of the Roman Empire around 70 A.D.
  • Portugal produces about 52% of the world’s cork supply.
  • The word ‘Wine’ is mentioned 521 times in the Bible.
