To answer a question posed a long time ago...

Y'all won't believe the kinds of questions I get;

No. Adding vodka to grape juice does not make it "wine". It makes it a cocktail.

Yes. Grape juice can ferment in the fridge and yes, that is wine... technically.

No. Despite its origin, brandy is NOT considered wine.

No. If it does not say "bottled in Champagne, France", it is NOT champagne; it is "sparkling wine"... and don't knock it 'till you try it; some sparkling wines are far superior to many "champagnes" found out there.

No. Grape juice is NOT wine... in the modern context... despite what Mr. Welch believed.

Ah... Got that off my chest. I feel better now.

Springtime Tasting at Martin Estate

Question: What's better than wine tasting in April?

We had set out early that morning and already hit two other vineyards for tastings and lunch, and the 20 minute drive north to the Rutherford Appellation gave us all much needed tastebud rehab time.

Martin Estate is not open to the public and it's easy to miss from the road. The one lane road from the highway to the estate is hidden behind an intricate wrought iron gate and ivy covered stone walls.

LONDON: A Great Place to Drink Wine

Hey Winos,

I'm a representative from the Olympics Wiki, and we require some of your oenological expertise, especially if you live in London, been to London, plan on visiting London, or just read an article about a cool wine bar in London. In preparation for the 2012 Summer Olympics, we began releasing an original series of videos about the city of London. Our first video is about nightlife in the English capital, as you can see on the London Nightlife page, but it's mostly people dancing in a nightclub. We could really use your help in recommending some good wine bars or places to drink in general.

You can help in the following ways:

  • Send this link along to people you know in London
  • Post your favorite London wine bar to the Nightlife Director…

French vs. Californian: What wine is better?

I have to admit I am on the fence but if I had to vote I would choose Californian because of my wonderful experiences in Napa. What are your thoughts on this long standing debate?
